Martial Arts Seeking Qualified Athletes

The American Martial Arts Association for the Deaf is seeking qualified deaf and hard of hearing athletes to compete in the 2013 Summer Deaflympics, said Dr. Frank Lala, president of AMAAD. With the 2013 Summer Deaflympics coming up in less than 7 months from now, AMAAD is searching for athletes in the field of karate, judo, and tae kwon do to compete for the USA at the 22nd version of the Summer Deaflympics. In 2009, the United States participated in the martial arts section of the Summer Deaflympics program with its first athlete, Rusty Nawrocki, in the men's tae kwon do. Nawrocki's participation broke new ground for AMAAD and now the organization is seeking more athletes for the next Summer Deaflympics. If you are interested or know anyone who could compete, contact AMAAD.
