Dr. Becky Clark honored with President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition Community Leadership

The award is given annually to individuals or organizations who improve the lives of others within their community by providing or enhancing opportunities to engage in sports, physical activities, fitness or nutrition-related programs. Dr. Clark was honored for her work for equality and inclusion of girls and women with disabilities in sports, fitness, health and mental health through her sports performance consulting, advocacy and psychotherapy practice. “Dr. Clark has worked to consistently promote physical activity and sports throughout her community,” says Shellie Pfohl, Executive Director of the Office of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition. “For our nation to become healthier, it has to be transformed by acts of people and organizations such as Dr. Clark and because of Dr. Clark’s efforts and contributions, girls and women with disabilities can embrace a healthier and more active lifestyle. Together we are all working to make our nation a healthier one.” “I am very honored to win the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition Community Leadership Award,” says Becky, who recently made an historic trip to China as a U.S. Sports Envoy to advance disability rights and inclusion. “I am deeply passionate about breaking barriers and empowering girls and women with disabilities to participate and become leaders in sports and physical activities.” This year, the President’s Council presented the Community Leadership Award to 47 recipients across the country for making sports, physical activity, fitness, and nutrition-related programs available in their communities. PCFSN is a committee of volunteer citizens who advise the President through the Secretary of Health and Human Services. About Dr. Becky Clark Dr. Becky Clark is an internationally-recognized deaf and disability sports expert and sports performance consultant. She is also a licensed psychotherapist (LCSW-R) with a private practice in New York City. Dr. Clark holds a PhD in Kinesiology with a specialty in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Temple University and a MSW in Clinical Social Work from New York University. She is a certified consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). Dr. Clark is an active public speaker on disability rights, gender equality, inclusion, leadership and mental skills. She serves on the advisory board of WomenSport International and co-chairs the WSI Task Force on Deaf and Hard of Hearing Girls and Women in Sport.
