Donalda K. Ammons Advocacy Award - Selection Criteria

Qualifications for the Award

  1. Demonstrates outstanding leadership
  2. Advocates for participation and athletic development in sports for Deaf women and girls
  3. Promotes gender equality and empowerment of Deaf women and girls
  4. Promotes wellbeing amongst Deaf women and girls
  5. Encourages the emergence of Deaf women and girls in sports
  6. Pushes for and promotes legislation for Deaf women and girls in sports

Criteria

  1. Priority is given to deaf-owned or deaf-run organizations, schools, institutions, or programs that meet the purpose of the award
  2. This Award is intended for anyone that works with Deaf women and girls
  3. Individual winners of this award must be Deaf

Award Guidelines

Screening Committee (For Donalda Ammons Award; Art Kruger Award)

*Will always be approved by a designated family member for whom the award is named or* a family-designated friend who can choose in the best interests of the family. *At least 5 members, no more than 7 members for the Award Committee. The goal is to engage the community for a sense of ownership.

  1. Two representatives from the Board;
  2. NSO Leaders or NSO appointees;
  3. At least 1 woman (Can be a committee representative)
  4. At least 1 BIPOC (Can be a committee representative)
  5. At least 1 LGBTQIA (Can be a committee representative)
  6. At least 1 community representative (If needed)

Nomination of Candidates

Any interested individual or group may nominate candidates for Donalda K. Ammons Advocacy Award or Art Kruger Leadership Award.

Nominations shall include:

  • A cover letter and/or ASL video summarizing the nominee’s qualifications, not to exceed 300 words or 3 minutes (video).
  • Supporting materials, including the current email address of the nominee.
  • Nominations may not be anonymous. However, the nominator’s name shall not be disclosed.
  • Incomplete nominations will not be considered.
  • Self-nominations will not be considered.

Election of Candidates

Elections for Donalda Ammons and Art Kruger awards shall be held in odd-numbered years in the month of August. All awards are awarded in the month of September. For all eligible awards, summaries and ballots are prepared by the USADSF Awards Committee and distributed among the voters:

  • The Donalda K. Ammons and Art Kruger awards are to be voted on by chosen committee members

Voting Procedures

  • All awards must meet the quorum of 75% of the eligible voters for that specific award.
  • The award winner must receive more than 75% of the votes from the voters.
  • The Awards committee will provide the names of the award winners to the USADSF Board and inform the award winners before making a public announcement.
